Job Summary: The Self-Perform Designer creates and maintains up-to-date edits of technical drawings and designs necessary for the accurate and timely production of frame panels.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist self-perform and Shaw estimating department through the following actions
    • Perform square & linear footage takeoffs for conceptual estimating
    • Apply unit and blended rates for conceptual and schematic pricing
    • Provide drawing and detail review at sequential phases of drawing release for pricing, constructability, and quality.
    • Perform detail material takeoffs and create bid lists
    • Distribute and manage bid process for components, bulk items, and labor.
  • Assist self-perform in the fabrication of panels through the following actions
    • Coordinate with SPS manager & Shaw engineers for the required submittals
    • Manage and track the drawing progress from “for Construction” drawings on to ensure coordination and accurate design.
    • Coordination with PM related to changes for the capture of additional time & cost.
    • Design of panels and coordination using MiTek with site team for the most accurate, cost effective, and time efficient solutions possible.
    • Correct on-going project panel shops due to current field issues. Create & maintain a lessons learned check list for company training.
    • Train future engineers and designers in your respective field
    • Confirm slab layouts and dimensions. Provide embed, holddown, and anchorage drawings to concrete team or CAD drawings to survey team for use by others.
  • Utilize CAD to set points and control for framing layout
  • Manage job costs associated with panel production and ensure profitability
  • Participate & lead company training & coordination with field and office staff in regards to panel design and estimating
  • Assist self-perform department in developing and maintaining a panel facility
  • Assist self-perform division and perform other duties / responsibilities as needed for project specific scope requirements as requested
  • Support Project QA/QC Planning including inspection check lists and reporting
  • Utilize Project documentation including Submittals / Shop Drawings & Design Coordination Drawings to support the QA/QC Project Planning

Other Duties:

  • Attend and participate in company trainings / meetings / retreats
  • Assist with developing and maintaining Shaw internal / subcontractor relationships.
  • Promote, Educate and Utilize self perform department divisions including yard functions panel / equipment / tools, logistics, concrete, survey & BIM.

Education/Experience:

  • An equivalent combination of 5 years+ education and experience as a panel designer

Certifications/Required Training:

  • None Required, however prefer GPS equipment or RPLS license

Skills Required:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the general construction practices, framing principles and practices, engineering design and construction practices and techniques, construction document reading, construction means, methods and materials, understanding of current building codes.
  • Experience and knowledge of wood framing systems, trusses and panel design/fabrication.
  • Knowledge of construction cost control and basic accounting procedures.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft office suite programs, Procore/Autodesk, Navisworks, BIM360, Bluebeam, AutoCad, Civil 3D, MicroStation/GeoPAK, Trimble, Tekla, OST and Timberline Estimating with mastery of MiTek Sapphire and MiTek suite products.
  • Strong ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.

Compensation:

  • Pay Type: Salary (exempt)
  • Pay Range: $85,000 to $110,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Other Compensation: Bonus commensurate with individual performance, company performance, and experience.
